Sunny Florida: Day 1

We arrived last night to a Christmas tree full of presents. Lola pretty much has everything Yo Gabba Gabba and can't wait for her friend Rowan to come over and play when we get home.
We started the day off by going to the park this morning and then a swim before lunch. Lola took a 3 hour nap followed by a trip to Target where she got a swim vest. It may help her to be a little more independent in the pool, we'll see.
She had so much fun in the water today and kept asking me to put her "down" which of course I didn't do. She totally thinks she can swim by herself. I hope she likes the swim vest and if she can keep her face out of the water I think she will do fine in it. You can guarantee I will post photos tomorrow.

Lola and Mommy fly the friendly skies

Lola had her first flights today and thank goodness for me (and everyone else on the plane) she was excellent!!!
On our first flight we sat next to a college student who was so nice & helpful. She even held Lola for a few minutes. Our layover in Atlanta was a little hectic. Lola was super tired but wanted to run around so I was chasing her all over the terminal. Where ever Lola went I was right there beside her pushing the stroller. She fell asleep on our second flight, woke up a little crabby and had a minor meltdown that didn't last long. Since gigi has sweet hookups at the airport she was able to greet Lola and I right when we got off the plane.
Yay, we're here safe & sound!

We miss you already Aaron...love you!

Chrstmas success!

Since Lola and I are off to sunny Florida tomorrow we had Christmas today with the kids. It was such a great day!!!! Lola LOVES her new kitchen and so do we. Talk about fun, this is serious fun!
Ian scored the big time when he opened I think 7 air soft guns. He is totally into playing Army guys and guns are pretty much the coolest thing ever. I prefer he put together puzzles but that's not going to happen.
Here's the link to a handful of holiday photos.
I'll be frank here, I am a nervous wreck to fly tomorrow with Lola so I took a couple Tylenol PMs about an hour ago so that I would sleep instead of staying up all night worrying so I'm crashing fast, it's hit me like a ton of bricks and I have to go to bed now.
Merry Christmas eve!

THIS JUST IN! Ian has informed his Father that "this is the best Christmas I've ever had!"

Mother of the Year

probably not this year

I'm sure when Lola's Ooma purchased this little art tray she didn't plan on her sweet granddaughter using it as a TV tray.
Aaron wasn't home for dinner tonight so Lola and I ate in front of the TV. She was happy. I felt guilty. We normally eat at the kitchen table as a family but not tonight, I've broken another rule.
It seems like every book out there says how bad TV is for kids, don't eat in front of the TV, blah blah blah. I'm pretty sure Ian came out of the womb watching TV and he got a perfect score on his proficiency test. He gets his smarts from Sponge Bob and since I'm 100% positive DJ Lance is way smarter than Sponge Bob I'm securing Lola's spot at Harvard Medical School. Shoot, who is going to pay for that?

morning meltdown

Lola would not, and I repeat, would NOT get in her high chair this morning for breakfast without all of the Yo Gabba Gabba gang joining her. She tried to carry all five at once but kept dropping one or two here and there. She was freaking out! This baby girl has no patience and totally gets that from her Daddy.
With my help we arranged them all nicely on her high chair while she ate her maple and brown sugar oatmeal. I always put her high chair by the bathroom door while I get ready for work and at one point I watched as she was trying to feed Brobee (the little green one) oatmeal. Pretty soon Brobee had oatmeal all over his face and Lola was saying "uh oh!"
Lola would like to thank Aunt Jenny & Aunt Heather for her fun little YGG guys!

Brown Family Christmas

We had a Christmas celebration last evening with Aaron's family which included all 4 of the grandkids together... finally! Lola and Ian had so much fun opening their gifts. We didn't get to spend much time with Ian because he disappeared into the other room to set up his new Army guys. There were so many gifts that Lola was still up at midnight opening them! OK, just kidding, most of you know it's pushing it for me to let her stay up past 7pm but really, there were so many presents!!! She is totally into her new doll wearing a rain coat. Tonight she had the doctor kit out and she was taking good care of her new doll.
While the kids scored some major loot it was also nice having everyone over for a visit.
Thanks for everything, we love you all!

we don't want any trouble

You've got to be a pretty cute girl to win over a police officer on duty. There's no crying or whining your way out of trouble, you've got to bat those eyelashes and flash a cute little smile. Obviously this man of the law has a soft heart for girls who are missing teeth. Of course most girls who are missing teeth are probably in a different world of trouble than little Lola.

So... the next time Lola tries to take off with Vince's Thomas the Train all she has to do is smile up at Vince's Daddy and everything will be fine, we don't want any trouble here sir.

Editors Note: After viewing the above photos of Lola & Joe I have decided Jenny that it's time for Vince to have a little sister, Joe looks pretty cute holding a baby girl!

Pretending to be Jackie (the First Lady - not Brody's Mom)

Lola is getting in some airplane time before her first flight to Florida by taking tours of retired Air Force One planes. When Daddy asked "Lola do you think you are the President?" her answer was "yeah"

More photos here.

Lola and Sam went to see Santa today at their school. The event was called "Cookies with Santa" Lola had very little Santa time but did eat 3 cookies and a candy cane so it wasn't a wash.

music to my ears

I wish many things for Lola like health and happiness. I wish that she grows into a strong (not manly strong) independent woman. I will do my best to raise her to appreciate everything that life has to offer and so far I think I'm doing an ok job because what she does appreciate is her Mothers singing voice. No one else appreciates that.

I do wish that Lola develops a better singing voice than I have. Aaron likes to tell me when I sing that "it's like angels came down from heaven and crapped in my ear" WHAT? Come on, it's not that bad. Anyway, Lola has a perfect little singing voice, something she got that didn't take after me.

Pajama Party Time

Rowan was over tonight for a pajama party with Lola while his parents hit the town in all their glory (staying out until almost midnight- wahooo party). He was a little upset with his parents when they left but Aaron distracted him with some really cool Hot Wheel cars. We had some play time, Lola had her bath while Rowan watched and then they ate a bunch of cookies before bed. Once Rowan figured out where we keep the cookies (in the Santa cookie jar) he stood right there by the kitchen counter asking for "more" until bed time. OK, not really the whole time but a lot of the time. In fact they have their mouths stuffed with cookies in the above photo.
Grandma Joni was here tonight to help keep things in line because when there are two toddlers and one 8 year old you pretty much need a full time Grandma in the house.

pajama party time, jumping around, pajama party time, jumping around.

Amy Sedaris loved by all ages

I was first introduced to Amy Sedaris when she played the hilarious Jerri Blank on Strangers with Candy, one of the greatest shows ever in the history of TV. She has had small parts in films like Elf and Bewitched. She played the cat loving girlfriend on My Name is Earl and has been on The Colbert Report (just to name a few). But most recently we saw her on Lola's favorite show Yo Gabba Gabba, she played the Tooth Fairy! As I was glued to the TV back in 2000 watching every episode of Strangers Lola and Rowan were glued tonight watching the Tooth Fairy. How cute is this? Not only are they watching YGG but they are sitting on the YGG mat.
Kids today...

Christmas tree decorated with live cats

The holidays are here and I am SO EXCITED! I finally got the house decorated and I say finally because I was ready to decorate in July but in an effort not to annoy my neighbors I waited until the day after Thanksgiving which seems to be a tradition since moving into this old farm house. A woman from the neighborhood across the street stopped to tell me how nice and inviting our house looks with the Christmas lights up.
Ian helped me put the ornaments on the tree, we did this while Lola took her afternoon nap. The look on her face when she saw it was awesome! Her jaw dropped and when she gained control to speak she said "tree". Nothing gets past that girl.
Our little kitty Gabbi is something else. I forget what it's like to have a kitten in the house. This one has the energy of an entire litter wrapped up into one small kitten. I was in the kitchen when I saw some shenanigans going on in the living room. The tree was moving and sure enough there she was climbing up. She climbed the tree three times that day. The novelty of having a tree in the living room seems to have worn off as she hasn't climbed it since Friday evening.
Gabbi is crazy, she fits in well around here.

P.S. HAPPY BIRTHDAY ANGELA!!!!
